Silva students take particular pride in their participation in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) competitions. It is the largest organization in the school. Silva students have participated and placed in HOSA competitions and conferences in regional (Area 4), state and national levels.
What is HOSA?
(HOSA) is a national student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Technology Education Division of ACTE. HOSA’s two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA’s goal is to encourage all health occupations instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSTE-HOSA Partnership.
Purpose
The purpose of HOSA is to advance the education and welfare of its members in the following ways:
A. by assisting local chapters in the growth and development of HOSA;
B. by furthering the development of respect for education in health-related careers in order to contribute to occupational competence;
C. by providing opportunities for well informed career choices among the health occupations;
D. by developing the leadership abilities of its members through a professional student organization program of motivation, awareness, competition and recognition;
E. by encouraging the use of ethical standards in health occupations;
F. by developing an understanding of current health care issues and an awareness of environmental concerns;
G. by developing character, promoting responsible citizenship and fostering patriotism; and
H. by encouraging mental and physical health through participation in beneficial social activities.

THE HOSA EMBLEM
The circle represents the continuity of health care;
the triangle represents the three aspects of human
kind well-being: social, physical and mental; and the
hands signify the caring of each HOSA member. The background of the outer circle is maroon. The letters in the circle are medical white. The triangle is navy blue and the hands and figure and the “HOSA” in the triangle are medical white. The area around the triangle is also in medical white.
The “Founded 1976" is navy blue.
